“I am interested in the transformation of the noumenal to the phenomenal – concept to form to experience – and by the “in between” moments spanning the beginning and the end.” – Kaye Mahoney
Kaye Mahoney’s works are in tune with much that is embedded, at a very fundamental level, in nature, physics and biology. Visually, they invoke the elemental phenomena of life: a sense of air, water, sound, light and energy in its passage through time. Through compositional strategies drawn from musical, sensory and mnemonic experience, Mahoney pursues a dialectical engagement with temporality and the idea of parallel universes.
Her paintings are made with multiple translucent layers within a rhythmic structure of chromatic shifts. Underneath their veiled surface there is a spectrum of possibilities that encourages an improvisational way of seeing. Through stop action photography, her digital video progressions replay the unmediated creation of visions as they take on tangible form incrementally.
